Ultrasonic testing
Inspection & Testing (NDT)
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is a non-destructive testing method that uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal flaws or measure material thickness. A transducer transmits sound energy into the part; if there is a crack or void, the sound reflects back differently than from a solid wall.
UT is extensively used to check pipeline weld integrity and to measure wall thickness in pipes and vessels to monitor corrosion rates. Advanced techniques like Phased Array UT (PAUT) provide detailed cross-sectional images of welds, replacing radiography in many applications due to safety benefits (no radiation).
