Slip bowl

A slip bowl is a tapered insert placed into the master bushing to hold the 'slips' – wedge-shaped dies that grip the pipe. The tapered design ensures that as the pipe weight pulls down, the slips are forced tighter against the pipe, preventing it from falling into the hole.

Different bowls are used for different sizes of pipe. Correct bowl maintenance is vital; a worn bowl can cause the slips to crush the pipe or fail to hold the load properly.
