Sand bailer

A sand bailer (or hydrostatic bailer) is a wireline tool used to remove sand or debris covering a fish or plugging the wellbore. It uses the pressure differential between the wellbore and an atmospheric chamber inside the tool.

When activated, the surge of fluid into the chamber sucks the sand and debris into the tool, where it is trapped by a flapper valve. It is an effective method for small-volume cleanouts without needing a rig to circulate fluid.
