PPE
Safety Equipment & Procedures
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) refers to the gear worn by workers to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. In the oilfield, standard PPE includes hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, impact gloves, and Flame Resistant (FR) clothing.
Beyond the basics, specialized tasks require specific PPE, such as H2S monitors for gas exposure, face shields for grinding, or chemical suits for handling acids. PPE is considered the 'last line of defense' in the hierarchy of controls, used when hazards cannot be engineered out or administratively controlled.
