Pill

A pill is a small amount of fluid of different specification to the drilling fluid that is used to accomplish a specific task.

For example, pills can be used to circulate LCM (loss control material) to cure losses or high viscosity pills to help transfer cuttings out of the hole. A pill would either be too problematic or too expensive to use as the entire mud system therefore it can be pumped as and when required.
