Perforating gun

A perforating gun is a device loaded with shaped explosive charges, lowered into the well to create holes (perforations) in the casing and cement sheath, connecting the wellbore to the reservoir formation. This pathway allows oil and gas to flow from the rock into the well.

Guns can be conveyed via wireline or tubing (TCP - Tubing Conveyed Perforating). The design of the charges determines the depth of penetration into the rock and the size of the entry hole. Optimizing perforation strategy is essential for productivity and for successful stimulation treatments like hydraulic fracturing.
