Packers

A packer is a downhole device used to provide a seal between the outside of the production tubing and the inside of the casing, liner, or wellbore wall. By expanding its elastomeric elements, it isolates the annulus from production fluids and pressures, protecting the casing from corrosion and high pressure.

Packers are critical for zonal isolation, allowing operators to produce from specific intervals while keeping others sealed. They come in various designs, including retrievable packers (which can be unset and pulled) and permanent packers (which must be milled out), and are set using hydraulic pressure, mechanical manipulation, or wireline setting tools.
