Overshot

An overshot is the most common external catch fishing tool. It is designed to go over the top of a fish (like a piece of pipe) and grip it with internal hardened grapples or slips. Once engaged, the overshot allows the rig to pull upward to retrieve the fish.

Overshots are highly versatile because they can be dressed with different size grapples and pack-offs to catch various diameters and provide a hydraulic seal, allowing circulation through the fish to help free it.
