Neutron porosity tool

A Neutron Porosity tool emits high-energy neutrons into the formation. These neutrons collide with hydrogen nuclei (mostly in water or hydrocarbons) and lose energy.

By detecting the returning low-energy neutrons, the tool effectively measures the Hydrogen Index, which correlates directly to liquid-filled porosity. It is almost always run with a Density log; the 'crossover' separation between Neutron and Density curves is a classic gas indicator.
