Magnetic particle inspection
Inspection & Testing (NDT)
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is an NDT method used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials (steel). A magnetic field is induced in the part, and iron particles (dry or wet suspension) are applied.
If there is a crack, the magnetic flux leaks out and attracts the particles, creating a visible indication of the flaw. It is widely used to inspect BHA connections, lifting lugs, and welds.
