Lubricator

A lubricator is a long, pressurized pipe section temporarily installed on top of the wellhead or BOP during wireline operations. It provides a chamber to house the tool string (logging tools, guns) so they can be introduced into the pressurized wellbore.

The tool is pulled up into the lubricator, the well is closed below it, and the pressure is bled off to remove the tool. The length of the lubricator must exceed the length of the tool string being run.
