Lockout Tagout

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is a safety procedure used to ensure that dangerous machines are properly shut off and not able to be started up again prior to the completion of maintenance or servicing.

It involves physically locking the energy isolation device (breaker, valve) with a padlock and attaching a tag indicating who locked it and why. It effectively controls hazardous energy (electrical, hydraulic, mechanical) to prevent crushed-by or electrocution injuries.
