Gravel pack

A sand control method used in completions. A screen is placed in the wellbore, and sized gravel (coarse sand) is pumped into the annulus between the screen and the formation.

The gravel acts as a filter, allowing oil/gas to flow while holding back loose formation sand that would otherwise erode equipment.
