Frac tree
Stimulation & Fracturing
A frac tree (or frac stack) is a temporary, heavy-duty valve assembly installed on the wellhead specifically for the fracturing operation. It is designed to withstand the extreme pressures (10,000–15,000 psi) and the highly erosive nature of sand-laden fluid pumped during fracking.
Standard production trees are typically not robust enough to handle the abrasion from millions of pounds of sand. Once the frac job is complete and flowback is finished, the large-bore frac tree is removed and replaced with the permanent production tree.
