Eddy current testing
Inspection & Testing (NDT)
Eddy Current Testing (ECT) uses electromagnetic induction to detect flaws in conductive materials. A coil carrying AC current creates a magnetic field that induces eddy currents in the test piece.
Variations in the material (cracks, corrosion, thickness change) alter the flow of eddy currents, which is detected by the instrument. It is particularly fast and effective for inspecting heat exchanger tubing and detecting surface cracks through paint coatings (no need to strip paint).
