Drill line

The drill line is a heavy-duty wire rope usually ranging from 1-1/8 to 1-5/8 inches in diameter. It is strung between the crown block and traveling block to hoist loads. It is stored on a large spool called the supply reel.

Drill line is subjected to immense fatigue bending stresses. To prevent failure, a 'slip and cut' program is used to regularly shift the wear points and cut off the used section of line.
