Drill floor

The drill floor is the heart of the rig, the elevated platform where the crew (roughnecks) works to make connections and operate equipment. It houses the rotary table, drawworks, driller's console, and identifying manifold.

Modern drill floors are increasingly automated, with 'Iron Roughnecks' and pipe handling arms replacing manual labor to improve safety ('Red Zone' management). It is the most dangerous area on the rig due to heavy moving machinery and suspended loads.
