Degasser
Drilling Fluids & Logging
A degasser is a solids control device used to remove entrained gas bubbles (methane, H2S, or CO2) from the drilling fluid. Gas-cut mud reduces the effective density of the fluid and can damage pumps (cavitation).
Vacuum degassers use negative pressure to pull gas out of the fluid thin-film, while atmospheric degassers use centrifugal force and impact plates. Removing gas is essential for safety (preventing gas on the rig floor) and maintaining accurate mud density.
