Compressor
Pipeline & Midstream Operations
A compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume. In midstream operations, compressors are essential for transporting natural gas through pipelines by overcoming friction losses and maintaining flow rates.
Compressor stations are spaced along pipelines at regular intervals. They typically use centrifugal or reciprocating compressors driven by gas turbines or electric motors. Compression is also used for gas gathering, gas lift, and reinjecting gas into reservoirs for pressure maintenance.
