Cementing spacer
Cementing & Well Integrity
A spacer is a calculated volume of fluid pumped between the drilling mud and the cement slurry. It serves two functions: to separate incompatible fluids (mud and cement) and to clean the hole.
Spacers are often weighted and viscosified to aid in displacing the mud. They are water-wetting agents to prepare the casing and formation surface for bonding.
