Cementing head swivel

A cementing head (or plug container) is installed on top of the casing string at the rig floor. It holds the wiper plugs and allows them to be released into the flow stream without breaking containment.

A swivel-type head allows the casing to be rotated while pumping cement, which is the industry best practice for mud removal. Rotating the pipe breaks up gelled mud channels on the low side of the hole.
