Cement retainer
Cementing & Well Integrity
A cement retainer is a drillable isolation tool (packer) used for squeeze cementing operations. It is set above the zone to be squeezed (e.g., perforations producing water). The cement is pumped through the retainer into the zone.
A check valve in the retainer prevents the cement from flowing back into the wellbore once pumping stops, holding the pressure on the squeeze while the cement sets. The retainer is then drilled out to restore full bore access.
