Cement bond log

A Cement Bond Log (CBL) is an acoustic wireline log run to evaluate the integrity of the hydraulic seal between the casing and the formation. It measures the attenuation of sound waves traveling through the casing.

High attenuation indicates good cement bond (energy is absorbed by the cement), while low attenuation (loud signal ringing) indicates 'free pipe' (no cement). The CBL is the primary method for verifying zonal isolation before completion.
