Casing

Casing refers to the large-diameter steel pipe cemented into a wellbore to maintain structural integrity and prevent the hole from collapsing. It isolates different formation zones to prevent fluid cross-flow, protects freshwater aquifers from contamination, and provides a stable conduit for producing oil and gas to the surface.

Casing strings are run in telescopic sizes, starting with the largest conductor pipe and stepping down to surface, intermediate, and production casing. Each string is designed to withstand specific burst, collapse, and tensile loads encountered at depth. The material grade and connection type (threads) are carefully selected based on the pressure, temperature, and corrosive environment of the well.
