Cantilever

A rig cantilever refers to the extendable drilling platform on a jack-up rig that allows the drilling equipment to be positioned over a well without moving the entire rig. This feature is crucial for multi-well drilling operations, as it enables flexibility in well placement while keeping the rig stationary. The cantilever limitations are defined by its position, generally they move in an X-Y position and the load carrying capability decreases as it moves further out from its stacked position and away from the center line. Each rig will have a specific load chart which provides the max load in all positions which is essential for well planning. Typical reach (X) is around 60ft with a lateral movement (Y) of around 30ft (15ft either side of the center line). Some jack-up types can have a lateral movement of 40ft.
