Blender unit

The blender is a critical piece of equipment in a frac fleet that mixes the base fluid (water), chemicals, and proppant into a homogenous slurry before sending it to the high-pressure pumps. It features a large mixing tub and augers/conveyors to meter sand input precisely.

Control of the blender is vital; if the sand concentration is ramped up too quickly ('screening out'), it can plug the well. The blender determines the consistency of the 'gel' and the proppant concentration (measured in pounds per gallon added, ppa) throughout the job.
