Ball drop system

A ball drop system is a method of isolating stages in a horizontal well. Sliding sleeves are installed in the casing. To fracture a stage, a specific-sized ball is dropped from the surface and pumped downhole.

The ball lands on a seat in the sleeve, sealing off the well below and shifting the sleeve open to expose ports to the formation. This allows continuous pumping of multiple stages without needing wireline intervention.
