Alkylation unit

Alkylation is the process of combining light olefins (propylene, butylene) with isobutane to produce alkylate, a high-octane, clean-burning gasoline blending component.

Unlike cracking (breaking molecules), this is a synthesis process (building larger molecules). It uses strong acid catalysts (Sulfuric or Hydrofluoric acid), making safety management in these units critical.
